Over the years Motion City Soundtrack have accomplished quite a bit stateside, including headlining the Warped tour, Bamboozle, Lollapalooza and the mtvU Campus Invasion. They’ve also won two mtvU Woodie Awards – in 2005 the Breaking Woodie for Best Emerging Artist and in 2008 the Best Video Woodie for ‘It Had to Be You’ – as well as playing the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan.
My Dinosaur Life, the band’s fourth studio album, is the exciting next chapter for Motion City Soundtrack. The album follows previous long players Even If It Kills Me, I Am The Movie and the 300,000 selling Commit This To Memory. And it has already beaten previous records by debuting at #15 on the Billboard top 200 and #3 in the iTunes US new release charts following its stateside release on Jan 19th.
Produced by Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus and mixed by the legendary Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Kaiser Chiefs), My Dinosaur Life showcases the bands grittier edge, described in the 5 star Alternative Press eulogy as “aggressive, dense and complex.” Yet the band never loses sight of those killer pop melodies and lead singer Justin Pierre’s humorously deep confessions in tracks such as ‘@!#?@!’ and ‘Her Words Destroyed My Planet,’ complete with the goofy school science fair video. With 12 new songs that are lyrically contemplative, poignantly honest, and cleverly and culturally astute, Motion City Soundtrack are poised to take another giant step forward with the release of My Dinosaur Life. In the UK they have developed a sizeable and loyal following, one which has already snapped up most of the 5000 tickets that recently went on sale for the band’s upcoming UK dates.
